Former India National Cricket Team spinner Maninder Singh has shared his bold views on the star batsman Shubman Gill being handed the vice-captaincy for the Asia Cup 2025.

Maninder Singh also dropped a blunt statement on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper, Shreyas Iyer, being left out of the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

He staged his T20I return for the continental tournament that will be played from September 9 to 28 on the back of heroics in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against the England National Cricket Team.

Meanwhile, the most shocking snub in India's squad was of the in-form batsman Shreyas Iyer. The right-handed batsman has been in the form of his life in 2025 and performed exceptionally well across formats.

Shreyas Iyer led the Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final and scored 604 runs at an amazing average of 50.33 and an excellent strike rate of 175.07. However, he didn't receive the desired support from the selectors and was kept out of the squad altogether.

I really don't know why he keeps getting left out - Maninder Singh

Maninder Singh said that he was very disappointed to see the selection committee ignore Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the continental tournament.

He was, in particular, furious to see the mistreatment of Shreyas Iyer over the years, as he feels that the batter has a positive attitude and can make an immense contribution to the team.

"See, I was a little disappointed not to see these two names. Jaiswal, I think, is ready for any format and he should be there in any team," he told PTI Videos.

"As far as Iyer is concerned, I mean, you know, I really don't know why he keeps getting left out of the Indian side because he's such a fantastic player and such a positive player and contributes to the team.

"But then this has been happening for years. And when another couple of years go, you don't give him a chance, you'll find somebody else and you'll forget about all these things. But that shouldn't happen."

He is going to be our future captain - Maninder Singh

Singh further said that the BCCI selection committee gave a clear message with Shubman Gill's appointment as T20I vice-captain that he will lead India across formats in the near future.

"See, I feel that the selectors have basically decided that he is going to be our future captain. And if he is going to be our future captain, then you better make him the vice-captain because Surya Kumar Yadav may have just another two years of T20 cricket, then you have Gill ready under him."

Notably, Shubman Gill is already the Test skipper of the India National Cricket Team and deputy of Rohit Sharma in ODIs.
