Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise has named the replacement for their injured pacer David Payne. The fast bowler has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2026 because of an injury. In place of the injured pacer, SRH chose Gerald Coetzee, another fast bowler, for the rest of the IPL 2026 season. Regarding this, IPL shared an official release on April 18.
Sunrisers Hyderabad pick Gerald Coetzee as an injury replacement for David Payne. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for David Payne for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the official statement reads.
Gerald Coetzee has played multiple IPL matches in the past
Gerald Coetzee has prior experience in the highly competitive league. The South African international pacer has played 14 IPL games in the past, representing Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), and has taken 15 IPL wickets. He will join the Hyderabad-based franchise for a price tag of INR 2 crore. The right arm pacer has played 4 Tests, 14 ODIs and 18 T20Is for South Africa and has 67 international wickets against his name.
On April 16, it was reported that David Payne has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Indian Premier League campaign due to an ankle injury. Before ruling out of the season, the seamer played only a couple of matches and got 2 wickets. He played the first two matches of SRH's fixture.
Payne joined the camp as a replacement for Australian quick Jack Edwards, who had missed the season with a foot injury. Now, to replace Payne, for another injury reason, the franchise secures the service of Gerald Coetzee.
In the two matches, Payne got 2 wickets, but it proved expensive. Against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he bagged a brace for 35 runs in 3 overs and remained wicketless against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), conceding 35 runs in two.
SRH had to replace another injured overseas player in IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad had to name another replacement as their English pace bowling allrounder, Brydon Carse knocked out by a blow during a net session. In place of Carse, the franchise announced the signing of Sri Lankan quick Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement.
Concerns remain over their skipper and premier fast bowler Pat Cummins as he is yet to play his first IPL 2026 match for SRH. But on a good note, Cricket Australia informed that Pat Cummins is all set to join the IPL franchise soon after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is all set to face the Chennai Super Kings
In the absence of Cummins, Ishan Kishan has been leading the team as the stand-in captain. Under his leadership, Hyderabad is fifth in the points table with two wins in five games. They won their previous game against the Rajasthan Royals and will play against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home in Hyderabad on Saturday.
