Hassan Khan is set to make his international debut for the United States after being added to their squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series against the UAE and Namibia. The former Pakistan Under-19 captain will get his first opportunity to represent a senior international side nearly eight years after leading Pakistan at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.
Khan was once viewed as a promising all-rounder in Pakistan, but he gradually moved away from the country's domestic setup before building a reputation in franchise cricket across several T20 competitions. His USA debut will now give him an opportunity to turn that experience into an international career.
Hassan Khan, who led Shaheen Afridi and Pakistan at the World Cup, set for USA debut
Khan has been drafted into the USA squad as a replacement for fast bowler Ali Khan, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. His connection with Pakistan cricket dates back to the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, where he captained a squad that included Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Musa. Shaheen went on to make his senior Pakistan debut later that year, while Hassan Khan's own international journey took a very different direction.
Hassan Khan had already made an impression in the Pakistan Super League during his younger years, but regular opportunities became harder to find. After a period away from the PSL, he eventually shifted his focus towards the United States and began building a career through franchise cricket.
That move proved important. Khan established himself with the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket and subsequently played in competitions including the Big Bash League, ILT20 and Caribbean Premier League. He also returned to the PSL in 2026 after being picked by the Hyderabad Kingsmen, giving him another chance to compete in Pakistan's premier T20 competition.
His USA call-up therefore represents more than just a first international appearance. Khan has spent several years developing his game away from the Pakistan setup, and he now has the chance to become a regular part of an American side preparing for the next stage of the World Cup cycle.
Hassan Khan's overall career stats
Khan's breakthrough season came during the 2024 MLC campaign with the San Francisco Unicorns. He scored 204 runs at an average of 40.80 and a strike rate of 143.66 in nine matches, while also taking 10 wickets at 17.36. He was the only player in the tournament to combine more than 200 runs with at least 10 wickets and was recognized as the competition's Domestic Player of the Year.
Overall, Hassan Khan has built a substantial career across formats, with his strongest numbers coming in T20 cricket. In 146 T20 matches, he has scored 1,649 runs at a strike rate of 143.14, including three fifties, while also taking 85 wickets at an average of 34.87. His List A record includes 735 runs and 44 wickets from 51 matches, while he has 388 runs and 31 wickets in 15 first-class appearances.
His franchise record also highlights his experience in T20 cricket. In the MLC, Hassan has scored 609 runs in 32 matches at a strike rate of 153.40 and taken 24 wickets, making it his most productive competition with both bat and ball. He has also played 41 PSL matches, collecting 276 runs and 22 wickets, while his CPL record stands at 207 runs and 10 wickets from 20 matches. In the BBL, he has 179 runs and six wickets from 11 games.
