Australian wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy expressed excitement at where the women’s game was heading, especially after the announcement of the women’s IPL from the year 2023 onwards.

Considering how well the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has done over the years, it was only a matter of time before BCCI brought its own version to the fore. Although the number of teams may not be the same as the men’s IPL, it is the right place to start.

I think the announcement for those competitions is pretty great. I mean, it’s exactly where we thought that the women’s game needed to go, that (women’s IPL) was like the next step. I mean, we’ve had a really successful WBBL.

Now into the Hundred, there’s sort of some thriving domestic competition, so to see the announcement of the IPL, in particular, to be able to grow the game in India is unbelievable,” Healy said in the post-match press conference after Australia’s semifinal win over West Indies.

Healy also said that the domestic structure, if improved, will turn India into a powerhouse in women’s cricket. They already have young prodigies who have impressed now and then and with a bit more experience and nurture, they can become world-beaters.

It’s such an untapped market I feel in the women’s game. With so many people, surely they’re going to be unbeatable in sort of a 10-year time. They just really needed a sort of a leg-up in that domestic setup to I guess, showcase what these amazing women can do. So yeah, it’s really exciting,” Healy added.

Healy scored 129 in Australia’s semifinal win over West Indies in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.
