The ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026) has witnessed a strange and bizarre moment that took social media by storm during the recent match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The entire controversy began when an SRH fan was seen doing a “lemon trick” in the crowd just before Shivam Dube’s wicket. At first, it looked like a random act, but what happened next sparked a bizarre debate around “supernatural practices” in the game of cricket.
‘Lemon Trick’ in stands sparks bizarre controversy in IPL 2026
At that time, Chennai Super Kings were still fighting hard to chase 195 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shivam Dube (21 runs off 16 balls) was batting well, and the team needed 41 runs from 20 balls. CSK still had chances, but the game suddenly shifted in Hyderabad.
Dube got bowled by a sharp yorker from Sakib Hussain, and after that, the game slipped away from CSK. Praful Hinge then removed Jamie Overton, and SRH sealed the match by 10 runs.
Right after a “lemon trick” performed by an SRH fan in the stands, Dube was clean bowled by a perfect yorker from Sakib Hussain, and the game slipped away from CSK. Soon after, Praful Hinge dismissed Jamie Overton as Sunrisers Hyderabad won the tight match by 10 runs.
Timing of Shivam Dube’s wicket and CSK complaint rumours adds fuel
The timing of the act made the video go viral across social media platforms, with fans connecting Dube’s dismissal to the “lemon trick” seen in the stands.
After the match, a letter started doing rounds on social media, claiming that CSK had complained to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the unusual activity in the crowd during the match.
The letter talked about “supernatural practices” affecting the game. But later, reports suggested that the letter was fake, with both the IPL GC and CSK yet to react to that letter.
Lalit Modi drops a bombshell on the past IPL incident
Now, the former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has made this matter more interesting. He clearly said that the viral letter is fake, but at the same time, he dropped a big claim.
Modi said that such activities are not new in the IPL and hinted that something similar had happened earlier as well. The former chairman shared that an IPL franchise owner was involved in doing such acts against another team during the 2011 season.

Even Modi claimed that he also revealed that he had received strong proof at that time and had even alerted the opposing team about it. He mentioned that all such hidden incidents could come out in the future through a movie or a series being planned by his team.
Lalit Modi posted, X: “I remember I posted some team owner doing this to the opposing team. By doing exactly this themselves in the opposing team's dressing room. I even alerted the opposing team owners about this way back in the 2011 season—when it happened and I got an alert with concrete proof. I will reveal all these types of activities conducted by whom in the movie / TV series as decided by my team to disclose.”

That 2011 season had multiple teams, including now-defunct sides like Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Pune Warriors India, which has now made fans even more curious about which team he was talking about.
Well, CSK are already going through a tough phase this season. The five-time champions are struggling due to injuries and inconsistent performances. They have lost four out of six matches so far, and are currently placed seventh on the IPL 2026 points table.
