Chennai Super Kings’ opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has said that his opening partner Faf du Plessis’s innovative skills makes the job easier for him at the other end.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis laid the cornerstone of an eventual CSK’s win as the duo racked up a whirlwind 115-run-stand for the opening wicket in a mere 12.2 overs.

Gaikwad racked up a sumptuous 42-ball 64 while Faf du Plessis anchored the ship till the end, finishing with an unbeaten 95 off 60 balls as CSK racked up 3/220 in 20 overs.

“With Faf, it is pretty much easy. He has an innovation skill so he takes on the bowlers and it makes my job a little bit easier,” Gaikwad told teammate Lungi Ngidi in a video posted on the IPL website.

With the wicket being such a great one to bat on, it was all about taking a bit of time before launching a sustained onslaught, said Ruturaj.

“Against KKR, it was a matter of taking a bit of time for me. We were playing on a small ground, we had to keep going,” he added.

“One over I used to take chances, the next over Faf used to take. It was just having each other’s knowledge and knowing each other very well,” Gaikwad added.

Ruturaj Gaikwad had managed just 20 runs in his last three innings and so the young opener was chuffed to bits with the fact that he is back among the runs and that his score helped his team in winning the game.

”Obviously, it feels good (to be back among runs). Icing on the cake is winning for the team. It feels good when you contribute for the team but I think it was a great experience,” Gaikwad said.
