Fans erupt with joy as India clinch ICC Men's T20 World Cup for third time

India beat New Zealand by 96 runs to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final. The Men in Blue become the first team to defend the T20 World Cup and also the first side to win the trophy at home. Suryakumar Yadav’s side has been excellent throughout the tournament; however, their best game came on the night of the final.

The Men in Blue side have had their problems in their bowling; however, in the final, every bowler stepped up and performed brilliantly. India National Cricket Team were invited to bat first after Mitchell Santner won the toss. The India openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave a blistering start, scoring 92/0 in the powerplay.

Indian openers took the game away

The two openers scored fifties respectively. Abhishek Sharma took a big occasion to score his second fifty in the tournament, scoring 52 off 21 balls, smashing six fours and three sixes. Sanju Samson, who had an amazing tournament, scored three consecutive fifties in big games for the side, scored 89 off 46 deliveries, and put India in the driver’s seat.

Ishan Kishan also scored fifty, and India put on a massive total of 255/5 in their 20 overs. Shivam Dube’s amazing cameo scoring 26 off 8 balls. Though Jimmy Neesham picked three wickets in an over, giving out just one run, he had no support from the other bowlers.

Coming out to chase, the Kiwis were off to a flyer, with Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. However, the latter fell to Axar Patel, and the wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. Seifert scored 52 off 26 balls. He was the leading run scorer on the night. Mitchell Santner scored 43 off 35 balls; however, did not get any support.

Jasprit Bumrah has been the greatest asset for the side, as he picked a finish off with the spell of 4/15 in his four overs. He also finishes off as the joint-leading wicket-taker, with 14 wickets alongside Varun Chakravarthy.

Axar Patel once again bowled brilliantly, picking three wickets. Varun, Abhishek, and Hardik picked one wicket each. This is the first time India has beaten New Zealand in the T20 World Cup format. This would be cherished long by the team as they become a part of the history.
