Films Such As 'Shabaash Mithu' Motivate Young Girls To Become Cricketers – Harmanpreet Kaur

On Saturday, November 19, India Women’s National Cricket Team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur stated that the biopics of women cricketers such as ‘Shabaash Mithu’ motivate young girls to take up cricket or other sports as a career.

Shabaash Mithu is a Hindi-language biographical sports drama film based on the life of legendary India Women’s National Cricket Team player Mithali Raj. The film, which is directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Viacom18 Studios, was released on July 15, 2022.

Speaking to PTI, India Women’s National Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was in Kolkata to attend a fashion show, said:

“Films such as ‘Shabaash Mithu’ motivate young girls to become cricketers or take up other sports as a career. We know how much hard work goes behind realizing one’s dreams. Such movies help the cause of women’s cricket in India.”

The 33-year-old further said that she hasn’t currently thought about her biopic, but if any proposal comes in the future she will definitely think about it.

“If there is any proposal in the future, I will think about it. But as of now, I haven’t really thought about it,” she said.

Harmanpreet Kaur also said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is providing good support to women’s cricket, which is “very encouraging for the girls”. She further said:

“The mindset of parents has changed. Women can now take up sports as a career. There is money and fame if you excel. Acceptance for sportswomen has increased substantially.”

Kaur has so far played 3 Tests, 124 ODIs and 137 T20Is for the India Women’s National Cricket Team. She has scored 3322 ODI runs, including 5 centuries and 17 half-centuries, and 2694 T20I runs, including 1 century and 8 half-centuries.
