New Zealand National Cricket Team opener Finn Allen is set to leave the Big Bash League (BBL) team Perth Scorchers. The Kiwi opener had a stellar season with the Scorchers in the last edition of the BBL, where he finished as the leading run-getter and also carried his form to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India.
Two clubs are interested in signing the destructive opener for the upcoming season. Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers are interested; it is reported that these two teams are set to offer a huge amount, which will make Finn Allen the highest-paid player in the history of the Big Bash League. It will be a good monetary bid for the opener.
Finn Allen to become highest-paid BBL player
As per the reports, Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers have offered around A$600,000, which is around INR 4.02 crore. The deal is going to turn the heads of many fans as no other player has got such an amount of money in BBL’s history. However, it will be interesting to watch if Perth Scorchers let go of their best batter from last season.
Previously, Babar Azam was the highest-paid player in Big Bash League history. He signed a record-shattering deal with the Sydney Sixers for BBL Season 15 worth A$420,000. So if Allen gets a release and joins one of the two franchises, he will set a new record.
Finn Allen BBL 2025/26 season
Finn Allen had a terrific season with the Perth Scorchers last season as he scored 466 runs at a strike rate of 184.18 in 11 innings. He smacked 1 century and 2 half-centuries, showcasing his prowess in the shortest format of the game. He helped them win their 6th title.
He became only the second overseas player in history to finish a BBL campaign as the competition's leading run-scorer. Finn Allen smashed 37 sixes in the whole tournament, setting a record for the most sixes by any batter in a single BBL tournament.
Finn Allen's IPL and international form
Allen continued his dominance in international cricket as he experienced a sensational and historic peak during the 2025–26 international and domestic window, highlighted by a record-breaking 33-ball century, the fastest in T20 World Cup history. He scored it against South Africa in the semi-final. In 61 T20I innings for 1663 runs at a strike rate of 170.7.
The right-hander has also impressed on the World Cup, with 298 runs at a strike rate of 200 for New Zealand earlier this year. Allen was allegedly on a $420,000-per-season deal with the Scorchers under the old regulations of set international player pricing tiers.
He also extended his hot form into Major League Cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), when he was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a base price of INR 2 crore and scored a stunning 47-ball century against the Delhi Capitals. In the IPL, he scored 349 runs in 11 innings at an average of 34.90; he scored 1 fifty and 1 century.
