Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt has come under massive scanner after he was included in the commentary panel for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. As per the reports in Cricket Pakistan, it is learned that the owners of the franchise have expressed their displeasure over his inclusion.

The Pakistan Cricket Board recently announced the star-studded commentary panel for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The governing body also, for the first time, introduced the Urdu commentary, and for that, there will be a separate panel too.

Urdu commentary panel for PSL 2025 includes Ali Younis, Aqeel Samar, Marina Iqbal, Salman Butt, and Tariq Saeed

The Urdu commentary panel includes Ali Younis, Aqeel Samar, Marina Iqbal, Salman Butt and Tariq Saeed. While the rest of the names were accepted, the franchise owners of the PSL raised concerns over Butt, especially with his history while playing not being good.

Salman, who was convicted for spot-fixing, during the Lord's Test in 2010. He along with Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, were involved in a spot-fixing scandal and served jail in London. Since the trio has faced a lot of backlash from the cricketers as well as fans.

PSL Franchise owners sent a joint letter to the authorities over the inclusion of Salman Butt in the commentary panel

As per the reports in Cricket Pakistan, it is learned that as soon as the PSL franchise owner learned that Salman Butt was being included in the commentary panel, they sent a joint letter to the authorities.

The letter reportedly didn't name anyone but mentioned that no individual involved in unethical activities, fixing, or who had been jailed be included in the panel, as it could affect the league’s reputation.

PCB mentions that Salman Butt would be doing commentary in Urdu and it won't tarnish the league’s reputation

However, despite their request, Butt's name was still included in the official commentary panel the following day. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly mentioned that Salman Butt would be doing commentary in Urdu, which would likely not be widely recognized outside Pakistan.

Butt has been associated with the PCB's activities for a while now. The pacer conducted interviews with national cricketers for PCB Digital, and late in 2023, he was briefly appointed as an advisor to the Chief Selector Wahab Riaz. Currently, he is working with an institution whose representatives are also part of the PCB Governing Board.

The Pakistan Super League is all set to begin from 8th April. A total of 34 games will be played in the tournament across Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. The final is all set to take place on 18 May.
