Mohammed Shami faces fresh injury scare
Mohammed Shami made his return to T20 cricket in the ongoing season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his first match against Punjab, he was taken to the cleaners and ended up with the bowling figures of 1/46 in Rajkot.
He made a terrific comeback in the second match against Hyderabad as he delivered a sensational spell of 3/21 in Rajkot. Then, the match against Mizoram in Saurashtra turned out to be awful for the veteran pacer as he conceded 46 runs and went wicketless.
Meanwhile, his latest appearance came in today's match against Madhya Pradesh where he ended up with the bowling figures of 0/38.
However, there was a bit of panic in the Bengal camp when Shami suffered an injury scare during the match, as per a report in Sportstar.
While bowling the penultimate over of the match when the opposition team required 22 runs, Mohammed Shami faced some issues on his back, and he was seen lying on the ground holding his lower back.
He then received some treatment, and the pacer stood up to complete the over without further trouble, conceding a total of nine runs.
Madhya Pradesh beat Bengal to continue unbeaten run in the competition
Talking about the match, the Rajat Patidar-led Madhya Pradesh clinched a 6-wicket win in the thrilling match to put one foot into the knockout stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Batting first, Bengal posted a good total of 189/9 on the board in their 20 overs. Abishek Porel and Karan Lal provided the side with a really good start as they scored 25 and 44 runs respectively.
After that, Shahbaz Ahmed (37), Shakir Habib Gandhi (31) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (29) chipped in with crucial contributions that took the team to a good total.
Chasing the target, the Madhya Pradesh openers were not able to register big scores. However, Rajat Patidar blasted a 40-ball 68, and Subhransu Senapti scored a brilliant 33-ball 50 that helped Madhya Pradesh stay in the game.
In the end, Madhya Pradesh needed 12 runs off the final 6 balls, and Harpreet Singh Bhatia demolished Kanishk Seth to take his side to a 6-wicket win with two balls remaining.
Mohammed Shami's BGT selection in doubts
Mohammed Shami made his comeback to competitive cricket in a Ranji Trophy match after being out of action for close to a year. He looked good on his return and proved his fitness by playing the entire match without any issues.
After his first Ranji Trophy game, there were reports of him being sent to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 ahead of the second Test in Adelaide.
However, according to the latest TOI report, there are no plans to send the right-arm speedster to Australia as the BCCI is satisfied with the performance of the fast bowlers currently present in the squad.
"There has been no conversation around trying to send Shami to Australia, atleast for now," a source in BCCI told TOI.
