The BCCI has planned a grand celebration for Team India's victory in the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma and his teammates will be taking a ride on an open-top bus in Mumbai just like MS Dhoni-led Team India did in 2007 after winning the inaugural T20 World Cup.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the bus parade will be taking place on Thursday (July 4) from the National Centre for Performing Arts in Nariman Point to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The parade is likely to start at 4 pm. During the event, the BCCI will also hand over the prize of Rs 125 crore to the Indian team.

Before coming to Mumbai, Team India will be landing in New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday. They will be attending the breakfast hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before leaving for Mumbai. The Indian team was scheduled to leave Barbados on Monday but their departure was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl.

"The players are tired and are mentally fatigued. That is why it was decided to have short open-top bus parade from NCPA, Nariman Point, to Wankhede Stadium which is not more than 2 kilometers followed by prize distribution, where the Rs 125 crore prize money will be distributed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah," a source in the BCCI told the news outlet.

India's historic win at T20 World Cup 2024:

Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 to become the first Asian country to win the tournament twice. Overall, they became the third team after West Indies and England to achieve the feat. India had not won the tournament since winning the inaugural edition way back in 2007. The victory also ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy.

Before the T20 World Cup, India had last won an ICC trophy way back in 2013 when they clinched the Champions Trophy in England under MS Dhoni's captaincy.

Coming to the 2024 T20 World Cup, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final. The thrilling win ended a dominating campaign for the Men in Blue as they finished the tournament without losing a single game. After the win in the final, as many as three Indian stars also announced their retirement from T20Is. Virat Kohli was the first to announce his retirement before Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja followed suit.
