Chennai Super Kings do not like to tinker with their playing eleven too much. Over the years, the Chennai-based outfit has built a reputation of playing the entire season with a settled unit and hardly makes any change to the team combination.

As a result, several players find it tough to break into the playing eleven. In the past, one has seen many players including some big names struggling to get a chance in the CSK playing eleven. And one player who has suffered a similar fate this season is New Zealand star Mitchell Santner.

With Ravindra Jadeja in the team, the left-arm spinner has not really managed to cement his spot in the CSK playing eleven even though he is with the franchise since 2018. So far, he has played only 16 games for the five-time champions. In the ongoing competition, the situation has become only worse for him as he did not get the chance to play in CSK's first ten games.

The Kiwi star finally got a game in IPL 2024 on last Sunday when CSK locked horns against Punjab Kings. He made an instant impact for CSK. Opening the bowling in the powerplay, he conceded just 10 runs in his three overs while picking up the big wicket of Shashank Singh.

Mitchell Santner frustrated:

While Mitchell Santner will be hoping to play in CSK's remaining games this season after his fine performance against PBKS, he has admitted that he has been left frustrated due to lack of playing chances. Santner stated that he tries his best to stay focused and help his teammates when he is not playing. Santner also insisted that the team's success is his biggest priority.

"Yeah, I guess that’s the challenge of not playing all the time. It might be frustrating at times but I think, it’s trying to stay focused if you are not playing. What I try to do is help the other boys out, whether it’s at training or during the game and even have conversations with people," Santner said on CSK’s official website.

"And then I guess when you do get your opportunity, it’s not letting the team down, it’s making sure you are ready for that whenever it comes. It’s such a long tournament. So, if it is only 2 games, I am going to try my best for those 2 games and if it’s cooler, if it’s not, I am happy it’s all about the team’s success for me," he added.

Meanwhile, CSK thrashed PBKS by 28 runs to rise to the third spot in the points table. They have won six of their 11 games so far and are looking set to make it to the playoffs. The reigning champions will be facing Rajasthan Royals in their next game on Sunday.
