Gujarat Titans failed to qualify for the finals after making it to the finale back to back in 2022 and 2023. Before the season started Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians leaving a big hole to fill.

Shubman Gill was named the skipper of the side and the franchise asked him a lot to do. He finished the season with 426 runs. Sai Sudharsan scored 527 but there was hardly any contribution from the middle-order to support the top order.

The biggest problem for GT was to find a replacement for Hardik Pandya which they ultimately could not find. They tried to play with the best resources available but that was not enough to see them through to the playoffs.

They are too dependent on individual players to win their matches. The absence of a quality all-rounder in the middle-order did affect their performance.

In the meeting between the IPL franchises and the BCCI, several important pointers were discussed. Several franchises suggested mega auctions be abolished.

A few others suggested a maximum number of retentions to be allowed. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran also requested the BCCI to ban overseas players who pull out of the season after enrolling themselves for the auction.

The BCCI in response said that they will review all the suggestions and then come out with a decision by the end of August 2024. However, there might be several changes expected in the next IPL season which should make it all the more interesting.

Their campaign finished with seven wins and as many losses and it seemed like the franchise missed the likes of Shami and Hardik. In the meeting between the IPL franchisees and the BCCI, several suggestions were put forward.

The number of retentions to the Impact player several things were discussed. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three players GT might release ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Wriddhiman Saha

Saha will almost turn 40 by the time the next IPL season starts. With teams looking for younger players in the format, Saha might run out of favor.

He was consistent for them in the last two seasons. However, in 2024, he scored just 139 runs at an average of 15.11. With GT looking to rebuild, they might look beyond Saha next year.

Vijay Shankar

The all-rounder scored just 83 runs in seven matches. He was benched for seven matches with the management keen on testing out other players. Shankar is hardly used with the ball at GT.

As a franchise, they bank on all-rounders to do their job and they will look for better options than Indian all-rounders heading into 2025.

Jayant Yadav

The off-spinner played just one match for the franchise last season and was benched throughout 2024. With Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed on the side, it is almost impossible for other spinners to break into the XI.

Moreover, Jayant is nowhere close to India's selection as well having last played for the country in 2016. The off-spinner thus might be released by the franchise.
