Rajasthan Royals (RR) were the finalists of the IPL 2022 and had a brilliant start to IPL 2024 but tapered off in the second half.

After winning seven out of their first eight games. They won just one game in the second half and lost four on the trot to make it to the playoffs. In the playoffs, they lost to SRH who in turn went to the final and lost to KKR.

After winning the inaugural IPL title RR had to wait until 2022 to make it to the final. That year they lost to Gujarat Titans. Luck has not been favoring the Royals in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Once again they counter a mega auction ahead of an IPL season. Head coach Kumar Sangakkara and captain Sanju Samson need to figure out their best Indian core to retain them and the ones whom they can release. They need to do well to ensure that they retain much of the core with the retention rules likely to change from next year.

The IPL franchise owners had a meeting with the BCCI to discuss the roadmap of IPL 2025. Many of the franchises want the mega auctions to be scrapped. All of them in unison want the Impact Player rule to be scrapped as well.

With the overseas players pulling out from previous IPL seasons franchises have also requested the BCCI to ban overseas players for two years who enroll themselves for the auction and end up skipping the IPL season. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three players RR might release ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions.

Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna has been injury-prone for the Royals since joining them in IPL 2022. He had to miss out on IP L 2024 as he underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon and went under rehabilitation. With Royals venturing into building the squad from scratch, they might release Prasidh who has been out of international cricket as well for nearly two years.

Saini has been out of the international cricket circuit since 2021. He last played in Test cricket for India in the famous Test series win against Australia. Saini was a breakout pacer when he first came in but he has been getting injured regularly and has been losing his place in the side.

He last played in the IPL in 2023 and with RR not being able to give him regular games, they might think of releasing him.

Shubham Dubey

The middle-order batter might lose out on his contract with the Royals. He played just four matches for the franchise with a top score of just 25. His domestic cricket record is not that impressive either which might make the Royals keep him. The Vidarbha cricketer played just three FC games, eight List A games, and 20 T20s. With the squad looking to rebuild he might be gone as well.
