Gujarat Titans finished eighth on the points table with five wins and seven losses last season. Two of their games ended in washouts. Shubman Gill was named the new skipper of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians.

Under Shubman Gil, the team took some time to accept him as captain and found some time to find the right combination. Gujarat Titans missed Mohammed Shami who missed the season due to injury.

The form of Gill was questionable in the first half of the tournament. He could not forge the opening combination with Wriddhiman Saha.

Once he started opening with Sai Sudharsan, he started scoring runs and eventually ended with 426 runs for the season. The southpaw ended with 527 runs last season.

Meanwhile, after the meeting between the IPL franchises and the BCCI retention was the most-debated topic of discussion. KKR and SRH were against mega auctions.

SRH owner Kavya Maran further requested the BCCI to at least allow teams to have seven to eight retentions. She found support from KKR boss Shahrukh Khan.

Another major topic of discussion was the Impact Player rule. Almost all the players were against it as it did not allow them to field their best XI on the field. They further said that it limited the role of the all-rounders.

The BCCI in an update on the meeting said that they will review all the suggestions and will come to a decision by the end of August 2024.

In this article, we take a look at three overseas players whom Gujarat Titans might release ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Overseas Players Gujarat Titans Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Matthew Wade

Wade's performance for Gujarat Titans has not been good over the last three seasons. He was retained ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions but might not be retained anymore.

He has opened the batting and also batted in the middle-order but could not score runs anywhere. Overall, he scored just 161 runs for the franchise with a best of 35.

Kane Williamson

GT missed the services of Kane Williamson who was ruled out of the tournament in IPL 2023 due to a knee injury. He was however retained ahead of the next season.

However, the franchise could not use him to his best potential as he played just three matches for them last season scoring just 27 runs. GT will surely release Williamson but might consider him rebuying at the mega auction at a cheaper price.

Spencer Johnson

The Aussie pacer might be the third overseas player the Titans can release. He played five games for the franchise and took just four wickets. He made a grand entry into international cricket after a good stint in the BBL.

However, he could not replicate that form in the IPL. With GT having a good core of Indian fast bowlers in Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Shami, Johnson might be eventually released.

He could not gauge the Indian conditions and how to bowl on Indian wickets as was the case with many overseas bowlers playing for the very first time this season.
