SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12. Opener Abhishek Sharma rewrote several IPL records with the bat during his sensational century in the 27th match of the T20 tournament.

Punjab Kings scored 245 runs for the loss of six wickets after opting to bat first. Skipper Shreyas Iyer smashed 82 runs off 36 balls, including six fours and six sixes. However, SunRisers Hyderabad batters responded with an aggressive approach. SRH chased down the target with nine balls to spare at home.

Abhishek Sharma Breaks IPL Record for Highest Score by an Indian

Abhishek Sharma hammered 141 runs off just 55 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes, as SRH successfully chased a massive 246-run target in Hyderabad. He added a 171-run partnership with Travis Head, who scored 66 runs off 37 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes.

The left-handed batter's knock is the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. Overall, it is the third-highest, behind only Chris Gayle’s 175 and Brendon McCullum’s 158.

Abhishek Sharma Smashes Fastest Century Against Punjab Kings

The left-handed opener reached his century in just 40 balls, making it the third-fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. He also became the second-fastest to score a century for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sharma set the record for the fastest century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL.

It was the fastest hundred ever at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Overall, he became the sixth-fastest batter to score a century in IPL history.

Shreyas Iyer Leads PBKS to a Mammoth Total Against SRH

Earlier, Punjab Kings openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya gave a flying start, adding 66 runs in just 24 balls before Arya was dismissed for 36 off 13. Prabhsimran made 42 runs off 23 balls before also being dismissed.

Iyer then added a crucial 73-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera (27) for the third wicket. The PBKS skipper reached his half-century in just 22 balls and finished with 82 runs from 36 deliveries, including six boundaries and six sixes.

Marcus Stoinis ended the innings on a high note, smashing Mohammed Shami for four consecutive sixes in the final over. He finished unbeaten on 34 runs from just 11 balls.
