Former Indian all-rounder and 2-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Karnataka batter Prakhar Chaturvedi for breaking his record of 358-run knock in Cooch Behar trophy which he scored 24 years ago against Bihar.

The 18-year-old achieved this extraordinary record during the U-19 Cooch Behar trophy final against Mumbai in Shimoga last Sunday. On the back of Chaturvedi’s sensational knock, Karnataka were able to post a mammoth 1st innings total of 890 and this particular news has circulated in all parts of the Indian cricketing fraternity.

Prakhar Chaturvedi completed his quadruple century off 638 balls which included 46 fours and 3 sixes. Although he might have overtaken Yuvraj Singh’s tally of 358 runs back in 1999, Chaturvedi’s 404 stands as the 2nd highest individual score in the tournament.

He would have reached the pinnacle of this record had he scored 47 more runs, in short, if he scored 452 runs. The highest individual scorer in the Cooch Behar tournament is Vijay Zol who scored 451* for Maharashtra against Assam back in 2011-12 when Prakhar Chaturvedi was just 6-7 years old.

“It is a great feeling. I am delighted that the innings came in the final, and helped Karnataka earn the first title (Cooch Behar). Feeling a bit tired but, yes, nothing can match the happiness of a team winning the title and you are contributing to it,” Prakhar Chaturvedi said.

Chaturvedi had missed the ticket for India’s U-19 World Cup team which will begin its campaign this month in South Africa. However, after his 404-run knock, he is expected to be integrated into the Karnataka side for the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy.

His coach from the Dravid-Padukone academy, K Jeshwant claimed that it wasn’t easy for him to reach here but luckily for Prakhar, he was able to score runs when it mattered the most, and now he is just waiting for the Karnataka call-up. Jeshwant further stated that Prakhar Chaturvedi is a great example and a source of inspiration for those players who get demotivated after U-19 rejection.

“Very Happy To See This. Indian Cricket Is In Safe Hands” – Yuvraj Singh Praises Prakhar Chaturvedi

Yuvraj Singh who was the highest individual scorer of the tournament before 2011, hailed Prakhar Chaturvedi for his ridiculous batting and called him the future of Indian cricket with a tweet. “Very happy to see this! Records are meant to be broken and I’m glad to see the future of Indian cricket in safe hands,” Yuvraj Singh wrote.

Indeed, Prakhar Chaturvedi has had a very difficult journey in scoring the quadruple century only for the 2nd time in the history of the Cooch Behar trophy. His coach Jeshwant says that Prakhar’s dedication, hunger, and zeal has what led him to do the unthinkable.

The 18-year-old travels 80 KM up and down daily only for cricket and stays away from his family whenever he has a match to play.

“Kids at that age sometimes need validation that they’re good. After beating Yuvraj Singh’s record, am sure he’ll know he has landed and that he belongs to another level.” – Prakhar Chaturvedi’s coach said.
