Gary Ballance who recently started playing for Zimbabwe Cricket has announced his retirement. Gary Ballance had shifted his base from England to Zimbabwe in December 2022. The 33-year-old previously was involved in a controversy when he used racist language to Azeem Rafique and had later apologized to him in 2021.

Ballance represented England way back in 2014 against Australia and not many know that he has a century at the iconic Lord’s against Sri Lanka in 2014 and also again India. Ballance was a part of a 3-1 Test series win against India after losing the first match.

Ballance was a part of the 2015 Ashes triumph when England won the series by 3-2. Ballance was in and out of England’s side throughout his career and it won’t be wrong to say that ECB couldn’t groom him properly.

Gary Ballance had struck a century for Zimbabwe in the 2023 Test match against West Indies. Gary Ballance was looking in sublime touch. Ballance had signed a two-year deal with Zimbabwe and it looked like he could be a vital cog for Zimbabwe in ODI WC Qualifiers 2023 & T20 WC 2024.

Gary Ballance announced his retirement through a statement released by Professional Cricketers’ Association. Gary Ballance thanked Zimbabwe Cricket for giving him an opportunity. Gary Ballance though made it clear that he doesn’t have the passion anymore for the sport and would like to hang his boots.

“After much thought, I have decided to retire from all forms of professional cricket with immediate effect. I had hoped my move to Zimbabwe will provide me with a new found happiness for the game and I will always be thanful to Zimbabwe Cricket for providing me with an opportunity to return to international cricket and welcoming me into their team,” said Gary Ballance.

“However, I have reached the stage where I no longer have the desire to dedicate myself to the riguors of professional sport and this would do Zimbabwe Cricket and the game itself a disservice should I carry on,” he added.
