Harbhajan Singh has given a harsh reality check to his former Indian teammates Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar—who are currently serving as the head coach and chief selector, respectively—as he fiercely shut down the debate around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future.

As questions and speculations grow about whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will continue till the ICC World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Harbhajan has slammed the people who have not achieved much for trying to decide the future of two modern greats.

Harbhajan Singh said while commentating in the ongoing ILT20, as quoted by the Times of India: “I am so happy when I see a player like Virat Kohli who is still going strong. It is a bit unfortunate that those people are deciding about their future who have not achieved much. I have been a player myself. I have seen it happen to me and many teammates. It is very unfortunate. We don't talk about it or have a discussion about it.”

The 37-year-old Virat Kohli has smashed two stunning back-to-back centuries in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa, proving once again that he still has the fire to set the international stage ablaze. On the other hand, the 38-year-old Rohit has hit two fifties and a blazing unbeaten 121 in just four innings, showing he is far from done in the ODI cricket.

They are going very, very strong: Harbhajan Singh backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for ICC World Cup 2027

And Harbhajan feels these performances are enough to silence any doubts about their place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2027. The former World Cup winner believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not just surviving in international cricket, but they are leading the way and pushing the next generation to aim higher.

He pointed out that their preparation, hunger, and mental strength remain unmatched even today. The commentator even predicted that both Kohli and Rohit will walk into the ICC World Cup 2027 as leaders, role models, and benchmarks for Indian cricket. He praised them for keeping the standards sky-high and for showing what it truly takes to stay at the top for so long.

Harbhajan further added, “They are going very, very strong. Not just going strong, but setting the example for the younger generation… what it takes to be a champion.”

Harbhajan Singh urges BCCI to stop preparing rank turners

Additionally, Harbhajan sent a strong message about India’s Test pitches. After India faced 0-2 humiliation in the recent Test series against South Africa at home, he urged the BCCI to stop preparing rank turners at home, as it is harming both batters and bowlers.

The cricket pandit feels India needs balanced tracks where young batters can develop and quality spinners can thrive again as the team's Test peformance has been continuously declining.

He signed off by saying, “It's high time we start playing on good tracks in India, simple as that.”
