India allrounder Hardik Pandya once again justified why he is regarded as one of the most explosive batsmen in the game at present with a stunning match-winning knock against Australia in the second T20I. Impressed by his displays, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has compared him with legendary batsmen like Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni – two of India’s greatest finishers.
Gautam Gambhir has said that the allrounder belongs to the category of players like Yuvraj and Dhoni who are capable of chasing down whatever target is set in front of them. He also opined that he was not surprised by Hardik Pandya’s knock against Australia since the allrounder has played such knocks in the IPL.
“Hardik Pandya has played these kinds of innings in the Indian Premier League, and when you come into international cricket on the back of good innings in the IPL, then your confidence is very high. Pandya has played innings like these for Mumbai Indians. So, in that sense, he did not do anything new on Sunday,” Gautam Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.
“There are very few players like Hardik Pandya, there was Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni earlier and there is Glenn Maxwell now, they are capable of chasing any total or any target. Even if you need 20-25 runs in the last over, these players make you believe that they can score it,” added Gautam Gambhir.
The allrounder showcased his immense finishing ability on Sunday as India chased down 195 in the second T20I to seal the series with a match to go. He played an unbeaten knock of 42* off 22 balls to take India home with two balls to spare. His knock was studded with two sixes and three fours. Those two sixes came in the final over when India needed 14 runs as he sealed the victory in style.
