Gautam Gambhir finalized by BCCI as India head coach? Details of chat between two parties revealed

Gautam Gambhir and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have had discussions over the role of the Team India head coach. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the former India cricketer is the front-runner to take up the job after Rahul Dravid.
After the T20 World Cup 2024, Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the coach will be ending, and he is expected not to re-apply for the post. With the hunt for a new head coach on, Gautam Gambhir's name has made rounds.
Although there is no official confirmation, it is likely that Gautam Gambhir has applied for the post of head coach. The last day to send the applications for the role was on Monday (27th May).
The reports claimed that BCCI and Gautam Gambhir are under discussions for the same and the negotiations are underway on multiple fronts. Both parties share the same belief that "we must do it for the country". The governing body is also in conversations with some of the other candidates as well but Gambhir is the one with first preference.
"The buzzword inside the coach selection circle is 'desh ke liye karna hai'. Both the BCCI and Gambhir share the belief that 'we must do it for the country.' And the conversation between Jay Shah and Gambhir is understood to be centred around this idea," the report said.
As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that a top IPL franchise owner, who is very close to the BCCI top brass, has already confirmed Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach of Team India, stating that it is a done deal and the official announcement will be made soon.
On the other hand, a reputed commentator, who is also very close to the happenings in the BCCI, said efforts are being made to rope in Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the team. The former India cricketer also was seen having a chat with Jay Shah after the IPL final.
It is learned that Gautam Gambhir has told to his close ones that he is considering taking the role of the Indian head coach role. Even Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan is aware of the development and so far there hasn’t been anything official confirmation about it.
Relinquishing KKR mentorship and joining India not easy for Gautam Gambhir
Recently there were reports in PTI, which claimed that BCCI currently doesn’t have many quality options available at the moment for the head coach role. VVS Laxman, who was seen as the top option, didn’t express his interest in the post.
Gautam Gambhir, the reports added that it won’t be easy for Gautam Gambhir to leave Kolkata Knight Riders. Under his mentorship, the Shreyas Iyer-led side won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and hence the keenness to keep him with the franchise is there among the owners.
There were reports that KKR principal owner Shah Rukh Khan has offered a blank cheque to Gautam Gambhir to stay with the franchise for 10 years.
