In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown the exit door to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Tests. The duo were informed that they are no longer in future plans, and hence, both decided to call their time.
The reports claimed that head coach Gautam Gambhir and selector Ajit Agarkar categorically told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they don't want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Tests anymore. It is learned that a big cricket manager talked to both the players, and then the selector did his job.

It is also reported that BCCI didn't intervene in the matter and didn't even once tell Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not to retire. The stalwarts of Indian cricket are not leaving on their own, and had they not been informed about their future plans, both would've never thought about retirement.

The BCCI reportedly has also mentioned that if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma don't play Tests, then their future in ODIs will be discussed as well. The duo notably announced their retirement in T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Coming to Rohit Sharma, the senior Indian opener recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. The batter, who recently shared his eagerness to do well in England Tests, made his decision public through a social media post, and it left many shocked.
There were reports that claimed that BCCI straight forward told Rohit Sharma that they were a young captain for the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship, and hence, they decided to move on. This prompted him to call his retirement.

On the other hand, there have been several reports in the last few hours which have claimed that Virat Kohli has told BCCI that he doesn't want to continue in Tests. The right-hander has been thinking about it since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 concluded.
The reports also claimed that some of the top officials of the BCCI have told Virat Kohli to rethink his decision. However, it will now all depend on the senior India batter if he wishes to play. But as of now, he has decided that his time in the format has been over.
All these developments come just days ahead of the Indian squad announcement for the Test series against England. The BCCI will be meeting in the coming days to announce the team for the series, which is all set to begin on 20th June at the Headingley in Leeds.
