Australia National Cricket Team have announced their Playing XI for the second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, and the veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been retained in the side.

There is only one change to the Australia XI for the second match against Bangladesh, as Matt Renshaw replaces Jake Weatherald and is set to open the innings alongside Travis Head.

Initially, it was hinted that Australia might leave Nathan Lyon out of the Playing XI as they tinkered with the idea of fielding an all-out pace-attack in the second Test against Najmul Hossain Shanto & Co. That would have seen Scott Boland replace Nathan Lyon in the Playing XI.

"Trying to give another day to see whether it's four quicks or a spinner," Pat Cummins initially told reporters at the Great Barrier Reef arena.

However, the selectors convened pitch-side after Pat Cummins' statement and stated that Nathan Lyon will feature in the second Test.

Obviously a really tough one for Wethers - Pat Cummins

Jake Weatherald, who made his Test debut during the Ashes, scored 23 in the first innings before being dismissed for a duck in the second innings against Bangladesh. The batter has managed only one fifty in his Test career, with his average now standing at 20.36 after 12 innings.

Talking about him, Pat Cummins said that Jake Weatherald is a good player to have around the group, but his batting exploits were not good enough to stay in the Australia Test Playing XI. He stated:

"Obviously a really tough one for Wethers. I thought he was awesome around the group. I really like the way he goes about it but, you know, over the course of six Test matches, [he] just didn't quite score the runs that he or we would have liked.

"Like anyone, [he needs to] go back [to domestic cricket], knock the door back down. He'll be around, I suspect, for a full Shield season so go and show that you are better than anyone else in that competition."

He's been really impressive - Pat Cummins on Matt Renshaw

Speaking of Matt Renshaw, Pat Cummins stated that the batter has been impressive and they want to get the best out of him. Cummins elaborated:

"He's been really impressive. [He] had some great off-season tours to Pakistan and Bangladesh recently with [the] white ball, looks in good nick, [and] had a really good Shield season last season.

"We just want his best. I think some of the kind of chat about Renners in the past is he can look different from day to day. I think now, when you get to your back half of your career as a batter, you want to really know what you look like at your best and I think he does that. That's the hope with Renners, is [to] keep bringing your best version every day. That's being nice and sharp, putting a bit of pressure back on the bowlers."
