Former England National Cricket Team speedster Steve Harmison has brutally slammed and threatened the India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Steve Harmison said that Gautam Gambhir is stubborn, and his personality doesn't give positive vibes to the outsiders watching him control the Indian dressing room.

India struggling under Gautam Gambhir in Tests

Gambhir represented Team India in 58 Test matches and scored 4154 runs at a decent average of 41.95. Although his numbers as a player were decent, red-ball cricket doesn't seem to be his favorite format.

Since becoming the head coach of India in all three formats, Gambhir has helped the team become immensely successful in T20I and ODI cricket.

Under his guidance, India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in a stunning manner, making it back-to-back ICC title wins with Rohit Sharma as captain.

However, Test cricket has been a format where India have been struggling big time since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach.

After beating Bangladesh 2-0 in a home Test series, India suffered an embarrassing 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home and lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 1-3.

His stubbornness and his personality don't warm up to anybody - Steve Harmison

Currently, Gautam Gambhir's India are involved in a five-match Test series against England - the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 - and are trailing by 1-2.

India are on the verge of facing a defeat in the ongoing fourth Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester, and a loss here would mean a third consecutive Test series defeat under Gambhir.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Cricket YouTube channel, ahead of the play on Day 4, former pacer Steve Harmison blasted Gambhir's stubbornness. He stated:

"His stubbornness and his personality don't warm up to anybody from the outside. He is not the sort of character or personality who can sweet-talk his way out of things."

Serious questions have been raised over the team selections and tactics of India in Test cricket as Gambhir relies heavily on all-rounders, rather than specialists.

Gautam Gambhir threatened by Steve Harmison

Steve Harmison further threatened Gambhir, saying that he will receive a lot of pelters, which means criticism, attacks, or abuse, when he travels back to India after losing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He elaborated:

"Gautam Gambhir, as long as you win at home, you can get away with a few defeats away from home. But when you get beaten 3-0 against New Zealand at home and then you lose both the Border-Gavaskar and Anderson-Tendulkar, getting on a plane and going back to India, you are going to get pelters from everywhere."

"He will show his teeth, he will snarl, and he will, if anything, dig a deeper hole or bring the bunker even further over the top. And I don't think he can, with this team, because I am not sure how long Jasprit Bumrah has got left if you keep bowling him the way he is bowling," said Harmison.
