Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has labelled legendary spinner Anil Kumble, the highest wicket-taker for India as the greatest match-winner India has ever had on Sunday. His record of 619 wickets in tests is the highest for any bowler in India until now and the third-highest wicket-taker overall behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia’s Shane Warne (708).

Anil Kumble made his test debut in 1990 against England and played his last game for India in 2008 announcing his retirement against Australia. He captained India for a while and did a decent job in the process. He also managed to coach the Indian team for some time and due to the rift between him and the captain Virat Kohli, he was replaced by Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach.
