Gautam Gambhir-like coach can save Pakistan Cricket amid disastrous run, claims Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team spinner Danish Kaneria has said that only a Gautam Gambhir-like coach can rescue Pakistan cricket amid the disastrous run the team is going through.

Pakistan cricket is at its lowest at the moment and they have been performing poorly across all three formats. In white-ball cricket, Pakistan have failed to win matches against big times, and they recently started losing against weaker teams like USA and Zimbabwe as well.

Things are not looking good in Test cricket as well because the red-ball captain Shan Masood is currently on a 5-match losing streak since being appointed as the new skipper. Under his leadership, Pakistan faced a shock 0-2 Test series defeat against Bangladesh at home.

Things are also miserable fitness-wise in the country as pacers like Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Ihsanullah, Khurram Shahzad, and Aamer Jamal have all faced serious injuries and have been out of action for long periods.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, as well as head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, have tried their best to bring the team out of its misery but have not been successful.

A major drama is also set to unfold soon in Pakistan cricket as both Babar Azam and Shan Masood are all set to be sacked, as per reports, and Mohammad Rizwan is set to become the all-format skipper of the side.

Amid the chaos, Danish Kaneria has suggested that the Pakistan Cricket Board to stick with one captain and back him to the fullest without putting any added pressure on him.

“Everything is taken for granted; that's why the downfall of Pakistan cricket has gone through making captains, changing captains. That will not work. Stick to your captain stick with him," Danish Kaneria told Republic TV.

"Okay, I have made him the captain for one year. I will ask him. I will ask him to give me an answer after one year. Nobody will touch him you have full support from me, but you need to perform. If you don't perform, you go out, so that's the thing you have to make tough decisions. Why, if you don't make tough decisions, things will not work," Danish Kaneria added.

Danish Kaneria further credited Rahul Dravid for the success of the Indian National Cricket Team at the international level. He went on to hail the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach, saying that he doesn't do backbiting and is a strong personality.

According to Danish Kaneria, a strong head coach like Gautam Gambhir is needed in Pakistan to help them bounce back into international cricket strongly.

"Why today other teams are doing so well Why is the Indian team is doing so well? They had a Rahul Dravid who worked with the team very well now they have Gautam Gambhir, a fantastic cricketer and fantastic guy. The way he reacts, he tells on the face. He doesn't go back and do backbiting; he's on the face straight away. This is how you have to be. You have to be strong, and like a strong person, you have to make the decision on the face, not at the back,” said Kaneria.
