Gautam Gambhir has reportedly become a growing concern among the Indian cricketers. Not only the senior cricketers, but also some of the young talents of the Indian cricket team are struggling to work with the head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
In the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, when the team is in preparation mode, the relationship between the players and the coach is seemingly not on the right tone. Several video, photos have already drawn cricket fans' eyes, where the distance between the coach and players is visible.
Indian players are not happy with Gautam Gambhir: Report
If the latest claims are to be believed, then a large part of the Indian cricket team is not happy with their coach, Gambhir. Many senior cricketers, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer, are not in his good book. Vice versa, Gambhir is also not the favorite person for multiple cricketers of the national cricket team.
Since taking over the reins of the India National Cricket Team as head coach, Gauti mostly relied on the emerging cricketers. After winning the 2026 T20 World Cup, on several occasions he mentioned that there was no space for superstar culture during his regime.
Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are not on the same page anymore
It is now well known that Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are not on talking terms. During the training sessions in England, despite sharing the same ground, there was always distance between Virat and Gambhir. However, the head coach was spotted in discussion with the other superstar of the ODI team, Rohit Sharma.
According to a Cricblogger report, the atmosphere in the Indian dressing room is confusing now as several players are left with less clarity about their roles with the team. The situation is reportedly already going beyond Gambhir’s control as several players have started to discuss their dissatisfaction with the coach openly with the senior cricketers.
BCCI to keep its trust in Gautam Gambhir
The top brass officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are also aware of the rising tension inside the dressing room. But the board is likely to keep its trust in the former Team India opener as the team is heading for back-to-back major events.
Winning the T20 World Cup in 2026 and, in 2025, winning the Asia Cup is making Gambhir’s position strong. There is no denying that under his guidance, the team did well in the multi-nation tournaments in the recent past despite making changes in the squads across the formats. As long as his technique works effectively, the board is likely to trust Gautam Gambhir.
A couple of days ago, after the India vs England 1st ODI match in Birmingham, former India cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan raised their concerns over Gambhir’s work process.
Both of the cricketers sensed that there was a clear gap in communication and a lack of clarity between the coach and the cricketers. Dropping players suddenly from the playing eleven becomes one of the main talking points for the cricket fraternity.
