Yashasvi Jaiswal may have impressed with a brilliant century in the first Test against England at Headingley, but not everything went smoothly for the young Indian opener. Despite his batting heroics, the Indian cricket team management, especially Gautam Gambhir, is reportedly not happy with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fielding performance.

The left-handed batter dropped four catches during India’s crushing five-wicket loss to England in the first Test of the ongoing five-match Test series. Yashasvi’s blunders gave England key opportunities and helped them chase down the massive 371-run target in the final innings.

Gautam Gambhir has an animated discussion with Yashasvi Jaiswal over poor fielding

Many believe these missed chances played a big part in India's five-wicket loss in the Headingley Test. Ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston, the Indian head coach has taken the matter seriously. Gambhir has been working closely with Jaiswal, spending extra time on close-in fielding drills, especially focusing on improving his catching skills.

According to a report by RevSportz, Gautam Gambhir was not happy with Yashasvi Jaiswal following his poor fielding in the first Test against England. The report mentioned that Gambhir had a serious and animated discussion with the young Indian opener over his blunders at the slips in Leeds.

The report also suggested that the Indian team management is now considering reducing Jaiswal’s fielding responsibilities, possibly shifting him away from close-catching positions in the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England.

Ryan Ten Doeschate hints at Yashavi Jaiswal’s removal from the slip cordon

Even India’s assistant coach, Ryan Ten Doeschate, hinted at a possible change in Jaiswal’s fielding position. He suggested that the team may look to relieve Jaiswal from the slip-catching duties in the upcoming second Test against England, starting on July 2 in Birmingham.

Ryan ten Doeschate said at the pre-match press conference, “We always want depth in the catching department. In England, you're always going to have four catchers at some stage in the game. Yashasvi has been a very good catcher for us.”

The assistant coach added, “There's also an argument for the short leg being a very important position, particularly if we are going to play two spinners. And we want to pick more guys in that position. And maybe just give Yashasvi a break from catching in the gully for a little while. His hands are quite sore. We want to get his confidence back up.”

MCA clears Yashasvi Jaiswal to continue with Mumbai for the upcoming domestic season

On the other hand, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially allowed Yashasvi Jaiswal to withdraw his No-Objection Certificate (NOC) application, which means he will continue to play for Mumbai in the upcoming domestic season.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Ajinkya Naik confirmed that the Apex Council has accepted Jaiswal’s request. The Indian star has been a key performer for Mumbai, and now he will be part of their squad for the upcoming domestic competitions.

Ajinkya Naik was quoted as saying by The Indian Express, “We have accepted Jaiswal’s withdrawal of NOC application, and he will be available for Mumbai during the forthcoming domestic season.” Earlier, Yashasvi wished to play for Goa and sought an NOC from MCA.
