Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has requested Team India to win the third Test match against New Zealand and end the series on a high. Gautam Gambhir's former teammate has reminded the Indian Head Coach how important the final IND vs NZ Test will be in Mumbai.

New Zealand have already won the first two Tests of the series in Bengaluru and Pune and are currently leading the series 2-0.

Aakash Chopra feels that many infamous records have been already created in Gautam Gambhir's era as India's head coach and Gautam Gambhir would not like to see another such record here. The third Test will be played from November 1 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Aakash Chopra's humble request to Team India

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra spoke about the third Test match between India and New Zealand. He claimed that this match was not a dead rubber and that some crucial World Test Championship (WTC) points are at stake.

He also mentioned that India have not been whitewashed in a three-match Test series at home ever and this is the time to save that record as well.

"It's not a dead rubber. There are two things in this. Firstly, never have we ever lost a three-match home series 3-0. We were whitewashed once in a two-match series but it has never happened in a three-match series. We are on the threshold of that record as well. Don't break it," Aakash Chopra stated.

"Please win this match because WTC points are also involved. You will get 33% points (for the series) if you win this match. So many infamous records have already been created in Gautam Gambhir's tenure. Then you say you don't want to break any more records," he added.

Unwanted records during Gautam Gambhir's era

Gautam Gambhir's tenure as Team India's head coach started during India's tour of Sri Lanka for three T20Is and three ODIs. While India clean-swept Sri Lanka in the T20Is, they lost the ODI series 0-3 to the home side. It was a shocking defeat as India had not lost to Sri Lanka in an ODI series in the past 27 years.

Now, the Men in Blue have conceded a rare Test series defeat at home at the hands of Kiwis. India had not lost a Test series at home in the past 12 years but that streak was finally broken here.

Aakash Chopra reflects on Kane Williamson's unavailability

The former India opener further reflected on the New Zealand side and how they coped with the loss of Kane Williamson. Chopra claimed that the other New Zealand batters have taken the responsibility upon themselves to fill up the gap created by Williamson.

"No Kane, no gain. Is that true? I don't know, because New Zealand are saying they don't have any tension. Let's be honest, if you see this team, it hurts as to what we are doing. Tom Latham was batting well in the last innings. He was struggling apart from that. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra are playing well. Who apart from these three is looking very confident or assured?" Chopra explained.

Kane Williamson was ruled out of the first two Tests of the series due to a groin strain. The former New Zealand captain was further ruled out of the third Test as well. However, his replacement Will Young has done a decent job at the No. 3 spot so far.
