India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has finally tried to put an end to the talk of a fight involving Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma with a strong social media post.
Since taking charge as India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir has been turned into the main target whenever something goes wrong. Many fans and critics have often blamed the former cricketer for every big and painful decision in Indian cricket.
Gautam Gambhir under fire since taking over as India head coach
From Kohli and Rohit retiring from Test cricket to the rule that senior players must play domestic matches to be eligible for Indian selection and the all-rounders-loaded Test XI, Gautam Gambhir has been blamed for it all. India’s recent poor results in Tests and ODIs have only made the noise louder, with many suggesting again that Gambhir wants Kohli and Rohit out of the ODI team now.

2027 World Cup logic turns into personal agenda claims
Gautam Gambhir has time and again made it clear that the ICC World Cup 2027 is still two years away, and no player can be seen as a sure pick at this stage, and this also applies to Kohli and Rohit as well. But online trolls and critics are calling it a personal agenda against India’s two biggest icons.
Some have claimed he will destroy Indian cricket, while others have compared him to some of the darkest coaching periods in the past. Gambhir’s bold team selections and unusual combinations have been questioned again and again. On social media, he has become the subject of endless jokes and memes, showing him as an angry, stubborn, or careless coach.
Gautam Gambhir breaks the silence and questions the narrative
Now, for the first time, Gambhir responded without naming anyone directly. He suggested that people have misunderstood how much power a coach really has and that the idea of him having full control is far from the truth. He also finds it strange and unfair to be shown as someone working against his own players, especially those who have given so much to Indian cricket.
His comments came after the first T20I between India and New Zealand in Nagpur, where he met the Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on January 21. Tharoor praised Gambhir for staying calm under massive pressure and for continuing his work despite being judged by millions every single day.

Shashi Tharoor backs Gambhir after Nagpur meeting
Tharoor posted, X: “In Nagpur, enjoyed a good & frank discussion with my old friend @GautamGambhir, the man with the hardest job in India after the PM! He is being second-guessed by millions daily but stays calm & walks on undaunted. A word of appreciation for his quiet determination and able leadership. Wishing him all success—starting today! #INDvNZT20”
Sharing the post, Gambhir wrote on his X handle, “Thanks a lot, Dr. @ShashiTharoor! When the dust settles, truth & logic about a coach’s supposedly “unlimited authority” will become clear. Till then I’m amused at being pitted against my own, who are the very best!”

Communication breakdown inside the Indian camp?
Still, some reports claimed that Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma shared a tense relationship, with the two avoiding each other during some practice sessions. There were also reports of a complete breakdown in communication during India’s ODI tour of Australia.
Reports also claimed a cold relationship between Virat Kohli and Gambhir, with many noticing that their interactions now appear limited and strictly professional during India’s ODI assignments.
