Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is on track for a speedy recovery and will be back leading the Indian team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. However, the skipper opposes the return of Shubman Gill to the T20I team and wants Yashasvi Jaiswal instead.
India will begin their Asia Cup campaign on the 10th of September, and as per reports, the squads are expected to be announced by the 19th or 20th of September, and hence, the selection process is already underway.
As per various suggested reports, India is to bring back Shubman Gill into the shortest format of the game, while players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, who have also been in fine touch, are ignored. This has led to a disagreement between the team management and the skipper.
Suryakumar Yadav doesn't want Shubman Gill in the T20I side
India will be led by their regular T20I skipper, while Shubman Gill is probable to get a vice-captain role, just like the BCCI and Indian management had announced during the official declaration of SKY as Rohit Sharma's successor in the shortest format.
Shubman Gill was recently appointed as the Test skipper and had a stupendous run in England, with a drawn series and an astonishing 754 runs in the series. After such a dominating performance, the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar want him back in the T20I side.
Gill last played a T20I back in the Sri Lanka series and was then dropped to focus on ODIs and Test cricket. However, skipper Suryakumar Yadav now stands as a major block for the superstar's return, as RevSportz reports suggest that he is more inclined towards having Yashasvi Jaiswal in the side.
Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar back Shubman Gill for the Asia Cup
This has been reported by RevSportz: despite the skipper not wanting to have Gill in his team for the continental championship, the Coach and Head selectors are inclined towards the Gujarat Titans batter.
"There is a difference in opinion. Not everybody is on the same page as regards Shubman Gill's inclusion in the T20I side. But what I know is the head coach would like to have him and maybe the chief selector as well," reported RevSportz.
This is, though, very clear: if the head selector and the head coach put things their way, then Shubman Gill is going to make his way into the squad. However, SKY's disagreement over Gill's inclusion might be due to his relatively low strike rate in international T20s and an average of under 30.

Suryakumar awaits CoE approval
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was last seen playing in the Mumbai T20 League, which began just after the IPL ended. Post the tournament, he went on to operate for his Sports Hernia injury in Munich.
After the surgery, he reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence to undergo a rehabilitation period before he could make a comeback ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The postponement of the Bangladesh white-ball tour gave some more recovery time to the MI batter.
In recent tapes, Suryakumar Yadav has been spotted batting in the nets at the CoE and has also taken fitness drills; however, though his recovery is revealed to be on track, no official confirmation has been made over his availability by the BCCI or the CoE. Suryakumar Yadav awaits fitness approval from CoE to star in the Asia Cup 2025.
