Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir stunned the fans with his one-word post for the Indian cricket team after they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa by a mere seven runs in the nail-biting final in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.

Social media turned blue, as Bollywood celebrities, politicians, and well-known personalities apart from the cricket fraternity and fans have been congratulating Team India on becoming the T20 World Cup 2024 champions on social media.

Gautam Gambhir's one-word reaction to India's T20 World Cup 2024 win goes viral

With social media flooding with congratulatory posts for the Indian cricket team and support staff, many have been waiting for Gambhir’s reactions to this historic win, as he is a hot favorite to take over from Rahul Dravid as India’s next head coach, with the latter’s stint ending on Saturday.

As the Men in Blue ended their 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy, fans were expecting special posts for the team, head coach Dravid, and captain Rohit Sharma, but the former World Cup winner left one and all surprised with his one-word post on social media.

With this historic triumph, Dravid’s stint with Team India ended, as did Rohit and Virat Kohli's retirement from T20I cricket, but Gambhir didn’t mention anyone, not even Suryakumar Yadav for his match-winning catch, and Jasprit Bumrah for his mind-blowing efforts with the ball.

However, Gambhir has always been against making one player a hero for the team’s achievement, and he has always been vocal about the same, so maybe this could be the reason behind his one-word appreciation post for the Indian team. He shared a picture of the T20 World Cup 2024 champions on Instagram and wrote in the caption: Champions.

Gambhir’s post grabbed a lot of attention on social media, with many finding the post strange, while some fans handed him the target of winning the next ODI World Cup, assuming he would take over as India’s next head coach.

Roger Binny wants Gautam Gambhir to become India head coach

Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny dropped a major hint about the same after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.

The BCCI president said that it would be great if Gambhir joined the Indian team as head coach, as he has a lot of experience and has played in all three formats of the game. However, Gambhir remained tight-lipped about the possibility of replacing Dravid as India’s head coach.

Notably, Gambhir doesn’t have coaching experience, but he served as a mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Under his mentorship, LSG reached the playoffs in both seasons of his two-year stint and KKR won the IPL trophy for the first time in a decade earlier this year.
