Ever since Gautam Gambhir was announced as the next head coach of Team India, it has been the new headline for Indian cricket. Most of the former cricketers feel it is a great moment and expect Indian cricket to touch new heights under Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir's wife Natasha Gambhir has expressed her happiness about Gambhir's appointment for the role. Gambhir was replaced by Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended with India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Barbados.
The announcement of Gautam Gambhir as India's next head coach was done by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who took to X to make this crucial announcement. He will take charge of the team from India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July.
Currently, the Indian team is in Zimbabwe where they are playing a five-match T20I series with the hosts. Shubman Gill is leading the side while VVS Laxman, who is the Director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has stepped in as the interim coach for this tour.

Natasha Gambhir, wife of Gautam Gambhir, looked extremely pleased after Gautam Gambhir was announced as India's head coach. She posted two stories on her social media handle, in which she shared the posts of two users.

Gautam Gambhir doesn't have any previous experience of working as a head coach but he has worked as a mentor for two IPL teams, Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Gautam Gambhir has worked with two IPL teams before as a mentor
Gambhir was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in their first two IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023. Lucknow Super Giants made it to the playoffs in both seasons. However, Gambhir left LSG to join Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2024 as a mentor. KKR won its third IPL title in 2024 and Gambhir is believed to have played a big role in it.
Gautam Gambhir's leadership qualities aren't just limited to his coaching experience. He also led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. Under his captaincy, KKR is believed to have their golden period.
The former India opener has also led India in six ODIs and won all of them. Unfortunately, he didn't lead India in many games as India already had its one of the best captains ever in the form of MS Dhoni.
Gautam Gambhir also played a vital role in India's victories in two ICC finals, in T20 World Cup 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup. In both these matches, he steadied the innings despite the team being in a spot of bother. He emerged as India's highest run-scorer in both these games.
