Australia have made a number of changes to their T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against India.
Both teams are currently playing the three-match ODI series that will conclude on Saturday (October 25).
Glenn Maxwell returns for India T20Is
Glenn Maxwell's return highlights the changes in the squad. The senior allrounder will return from a fractured wrist to face India. Maxwell will be linking up with the T20I squad for the last three matches of the series. He was ruled out of the first two matches after suffering a wrist fracture while bowling in the nets in New Zealand late last month.
20-year-old Mahli Beardman is also a surprise addition to the Australia squad for the last three T20Is. While Beardman is yet to play any match in international cricket, he has been included in the senior Australian squad in the past, too. He was a shock inclusion as an injury replacement on the 2024 white-ball tour of England.
The former Australia Under-19 pacer has made an impressive start to his T20 and List A career for Perth Scorchers and Western Australia. He has taken 3 wickets in 2 T20s and 15 wickets in 5 List A games.
Australia's updated ODI and T20I squads
Along with Maxwell and Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis has also returned to the T20I side. The left-arm pacer was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series and the first three T20Is due to a calf injury but has been added to the squad for the last two T20Is in Queensland.
Australia have also added Josh Philippe to the T20I squad for the entire series. He played the first ODI of the ongoing series before making way for returning Alex Carey.
For the ODI series, Australia have added New South Wales allrounder Jack Edwards to the squad. He has received his maiden international call-up for the last remaining match of the ongoing series.
On the other hand, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott will be released to play in the Sheffield Shield as all of them are set to play against England in the upcoming Ashes.
Labuschagne has been released from the ODI squad ahead of the third match in Sydney to prepare for Queensland's clash with NSW. Hazlewood and Abbott will miss the last three and two T20Is, respectively
