Former Australia National Cricket Team pacer Glenn McGrath has shared his views on Jasprit Bumrah’s unique action. He has also made comments on Bumrah’s shortened career due to his injury-prone nature.

Bumrah came back into the ODI side after 968 days in the series against England; however, he played two matches and had knee swelling during the second match, which ruled him out of the third match and the series as well. Jasprit Bumrah, while doing his rehab, did not fully recover for the forthcoming Sri Lanka series and was thus ruled out.

Glenn McGrath shares valuable insights on Jasprit Bumrah

While speaking on RevSportz, Glen McGrath shared his insights on why Jasprit Bumrah has an injury-prone career. He stated that every fast bowler needs to have a bit more stress from fast bowling, as during the off-season the strength drops a bit. So he feels that in Indian cricket, there is not much break and a lot of cricket is played, so there is no chance to rebuild strength.

"One of the main things we work on here is strength. To be a fast bowler, you need to be strong enough to cope with the stresses of bowling fast. As you complete your season, your strength levels drop off a bit. When they fall below the stresses of fast bowling, that is when injuries become an issue."

"We build the boys’ strength so that they can maintain it throughout the season. The issue for Bumrah, other Indian bowlers and fast bowlers around the world is that the season continues. A lot of cricket is played all year round. There is no off-season to rebuild your strength."

"Easily one of the best fast bowlers"- Glenn McGrath hails Jasprit Bumrah

Glenn McGrath also revealed that Bumrah is different from other fast bowlers for his unique run-up and bowling action. McGrath hails Bumrah as the best fast bowler in the world, and due to his action, he takes more pressure on his body.

"Someone like Jasprit Bumrah is a little different from other fast bowlers. He has a very unique run-up and bowling action. He is easily one of the best fast bowlers in the world. The way he goes about it is absolutely brilliant. But, as I said, he is a little different."

"You may not teach that to other young bowlers because it is so unique to him. He has a short run-up, builds up to the crease, and those last two steps really power into and through the crease. He has a little bit of hyperextension and a great wrist. That is how he generates extra pace."

"He has to work harder"- Glenn McGrath advises Jasprit Bumrah to increase his strength

Glenn McGrath reveals that Bumrah puts a lot of stress on his body. So the Indian speedster needs to take more pressure during the off-season to level up his strength, and there is not much break, so these challenges are faced by the pacers. Bumrah is expected to be back in the white-ball series against West Indies.

"He is brilliant. But that action does put a lot of stress on your body. He has to work harder to get that strength level up. But the problem is there is not much of a break, not much of an off-season. Those are the challenges faced by any pace bowler. That is one thing we focus on at the MRF Pace Foundation."
