Legendary Australia National Cricket Team quick Glenn McGrath, who is regarded as one of the greatest pacers of all time, has spoken about the current form of the India National Cricket Team superstar Virat Kohli.
Glenn McGrath stated that Virat Kohli is under pressure heading into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, and Pat Cummins & Co. should make the most of it.
Virat Kohli has struggled with bat in Test cricket in 2024
The India batting maestro Virat Kohli has played just 6 Test matches in 2024. In January, he featured in the last Test match of the series against South Africa, where he scored 46 and 12 runs.
After that, he opted for a lengthy break and skipped the five-match home Test series against the England National Cricket Team due to the birth of his second child.
He then made his return to Test cricket in the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The batter looked miserable against the Tigers and was troubled by pacers as well as spinners. Virat Kohli scored just 99 runs in 2 games at an average of 33.00.
His poor performance, however, didn't affect India, as they comfortably won the series 2-0. Kohli next participated in the three-match home Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team, and his poor form continued.
He scored only 93 runs at an average of 15.50 in three matches, and his poor performance had a direct impact on India as they faced a historic 0-3 sweep at the hands of the Kiwis.
So put the pressure on them and see if they’re up for it - Glenn McGrath tells Australia
India will be under pressure heading into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on the back of an embarrassing whitewash against the Black Caps.
And the legendary Glenn McGrath has urged Pat Cummins' team to all the “ammunition” to put India under more pressure.
“Without a doubt, especially after coming off a 3-0 loss against New Zealand, you’ve got plenty of ammunition to back yourself up,” McGrath told CODE Sports’ Daniel Cherny. “So put the pressure on them and see if they’re up for it.”
Notably, India won the Test series 2-1 on their last two tours to Australia and are aiming to register a hat-trick of series wins Down Under.
I think he’s quite an emotional player - Glenn McGrath
Talking about Virat Kohli, Glenn McGrath said that the Aussies should go hard at the Indian batting great and break him in the Test series opener in Perth.
The Australia great believes that Kohli is quite an emotional player, and when he is down, he 'struggles a little bit'.
“If they go hard at him, if he gets in the fight with emotions, there’s a bit of chat out there, who knows he might sort of lift,” McGrath added.
“But I think he’s probably under pressure a little bit, and if he has a couple of low scores to start with, he could really feel it.
“I think he’s quite an emotional player. When he’s up, he’s up, and when he’s down, he sort of struggles a little bit.”
