Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that all the players named in the squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka tested negative for COVID-19. The two-match Test series against Sri Lanka begins on the Boxing Day in Centurion. It indeed comes as a relief ahead of the home rubber after the series against England was called off.

On Friday, the Board informed that two members of the South African team tested positive for COVID-19 in their scheduled first round of testing ahead of the team’s entry in the bio-secure environment. With the ODI series against England already being called off and a handful of Proteas cricketers contracting the disease, South Africa’s season remained under doubt.

After a few South Africa players tested positive for COVID-19, CSA said that they have to follow all the protocols and isolate themselves with immediate while also leaving them out of the team. CSA also confirmed that their medical team would monitor their condition and no other players in the squad were deemed close contacts after contact tracing procedures were conducted.

The players will no longer form part of the Test team and will observe the Covid-19 protocols, including isolating with immediate effect. CSA’s medical team will monitor them to ensure their health and well-being. CSA can also confirm that no other players in the currently named squad were deemed close contacts after contact tracing procedures were conducted,” the statement from CSA said.
