Virender Sehwag took Murali Karthik to the cleaners during a live show. As Murali Karthik questioned Rajasthan Royals' IPL 2025 mega auction strategy and their decision to release match-winning bowlers, Virender Sehwag did a pure beijjati of his former teammate in his style.
Karthik mentioned that Rajasthan Royals weakened their bowling attack by letting go of proven match-winners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, and that might come back to haunt them in the ongoing IPL 2025.

He also reiterated how Sehwag claimed that the bowlers win the matches and tournaments, but the Royals don’t have that strong an attack in the ongoing season, and that’s evident so far. The RR have so far had a mixed season, winning two of their four games and sitting in the seventh spot in the points table.

Murali Karthik on Cricbuzz: “Rajasthan Royals’ confidence should increase with Sanju Samson’s return. See what they did in the mega auction last year. They were at number 2 in overall bowling and at number 8 in overall batting. They retained all the batters.
But the bowlers who have won them the matches, they left them all. You just heard Veeru saying that bowlers make you win competitions, and RR left all the good bowlers. So, this time his bowling lineup is not that strong.”
Murali Karthik’s criticism backfires as Virender Sehwag rips into his Rajasthan Royals take
But Sehwag dropped a reality check with his trademark swag. With sarcasm, the former Indian batter reminded Karthik that the same bowlers he’s talking about are struggling badly with the ball in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Virender Sehwag said that Ashwin, who returned to Chennai Super Kings after a decade, is getting hammered at Chepauk, while Chahal is yet to make any impact for Punjab Kings.
Virender Sehwag said during the same discussion, “But let me tell you one thing. The bowlers left Rajasthan; they are not doing it for their teams this season. Ravichandran Ashwin is struggling with Chennai. Yuzvendra Chahal is not doing anything for Punjab. So, in a way, it's good that RR released them.”

Sanju Samson becomes the Rajasthan Royals’ most successful captain
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson created a special moment in Rajasthan Royals' history on Saturday with a dominant 50-run win over Punjab Kings in the 17th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
With this victory, Samson became RR’s most successful captain, securing his 32nd win as skipper. He surpassed the late legend Shane Warne, who had led the Royals to glory in the very first IPL season in 2008 and had 31 wins in 55 matches as captain under his belt.
Now, Samson has 32 wins from 62 games in the IPL as RR captain, putting his name right at the top of the franchise’s leadership list. This win was not only big for the Rajasthan Royals but also ended Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer’s strong eight-match unbeaten streak in the IPL.
