Kolkata Knight Riders, on Monday (May 13), sealed their spot in the top two of the IPL 2024 points table after their game against Gujarat Titans was washed out.
KKR and GT were set to lock horns against each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain. The washout means GT have become the third team after Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings to be knocked out of IPL 2024.
KKR, on the other hand, bolstered their position at the top of the points table and will now be finishing in the top two irrespective of the result in their last league game. It will give them two shots at the final. They will first play in the Qualifier one against the second-placed team.
A win will take KKR to the final. Even if they lose the game, they will have another crack at the final as they will be taking on the winner of the Eliminator in the second Qualifier.
Meanwhile, KKR will be looking to finish the season at the top of the table. Even though KKR have won the IPL twice, they have never managed to finish at the top of the points table and will be looking to break the jinx this season.
They will be taking on Rajasthan Royals in their last league game. For KKR to drop to the second spot, RR will have to win both their remaining games so that they can finish on 20 points while KKR end their league stage on 19 points.
