Mumbai Indians skipper (MI) Rohit Sharma opened up about the loss his side suffered in the 35th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Gujarat Titans (GT). He was disappointed with the way how they lost the momentum and said that it wasn’t their day with the batting.
Mumbai Indians were at the receiving end of a 55-run thumping at the hands of Gujarat Titans in their seventh game of the IPL 2023. They were outshined by the opposition in all three departments and suffered their fourth loss of the season.

David Miller continued his good form and also chipped in with the valuable knock, scoring 46 runs in 22 balls before Rahul Tewatia played a cameo of 20 runs in 5 balls that helped GT post a total of 207 runs on the board. Notably, this was for the first time that MI conceded over 200 runs in two consecutive games.

Chasing the target, they look dreadful as they lost wickets in quick succession of time and couldn’t set the tempo. Only Cameron Green from the top 6 crossed the 30-run mark. Whereas Nehal Wadhera played a good hand down the order and scored 40 runs. But couldn’t take his side home as MI suffered a 55-run loss.

Skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the way his side performed and said that they leaked runs at the death. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:
“That’s a little disappointing, we had control of the game and the last few overs went for a few too many runs. Every team has different strengths, we have a good batting line up and we back ourselves to go out and get that target, today wasn’t our day.
GT vs MI: “We needed someone to bat a little deeper,” says Rohit Sharma
MI skipper Rohit Sharma further went on to say that they needed someone to bat deeper as there was dew. He pointed out that they lost wickets upfront which isn’t good while chasing a big total. He added:
“There was some dew and we needed someone to bat a little deeper. We came pretty close in the last game while chasing 215 but we didn’t start well with the bat today and that is not the right thing when chasing 200+. Even in the last 7 overs, we didn’t have many batters batting in the middle.”
Mumbai Indians will be next seen in action when they will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next game on Sunday (30th April).
