Emerging Indian pacer Gurnoor Brar threw the ball at England opener Ben Duckett in the India vs England 1st ODI in Birmingham. In the 8th over of the first innings, the heated moment took place in the middle of the field.

Ben Duckett was batting with confidence from the beginning of the match and batted aggressively against Gurnoor Brar in the eighth over. Tension started to escalate as soon as the England batter smashed the young Indian bowler for a six on the fourth delivery after a 4 on the second delivery of the over.

After going for a six, Gurnoor made a comeback with a dot ball. Duckett drove the ball gently back to the bowler with a defensive approach. The fast bowler quickly picked up the ball and threw it to the batter. The ball missed the batter only by a few inches.

Ben Duckett watched the ball pass by close to his body and then had a cold look at the bowler. In the following delivery, out of desperation, the batter swung his blade at Gurnoor's bouncer. The ball took an edge and flew over the rope for the second maximum of the over. The over ended with 17 runs, proving costly for the Indian seamer.

Jasprit Bumrah returns to the ODI format

With the India vs England ODI series, Indian premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah marks his return to the format after a long absence. Bumrah played his last ODI against Australia in the 2023 World Cup final. After that match, it is his first match in the One Day International format.

India keeps three pacers- Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar- in the playing combination for the 1st ODI of the ongoing bilateral series.

England started the match well with Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell as the openers. While Duckket scored most of the runs for the opening wicket, Bethell played a supportive role. For the opening stand, the hosts claimed 61 runs before the dismissal of Jacob Bethell.

Gurnoor Brar clinched Ben Duckett's wicket

The recently sparked rivalry between Duckett and Gurnoor concluded, at least for the first innings, when the fast bowler dismissed the in-form batter in the fourth ball of the 13th over. Jasprit Bumrah, who was posted at the third man area, made a timely jump to pouch the ball above his head.

In the same over, a ball before the dismissal of Ben Duckett, Gurnoor claimed Jacob Bethell's wicket as well. While Duckett went for 43 off 45, Bethell got only 14 runs from 31 balls.

The resistance upheld by the opening pair of England shattered down soon as soon as the departures of these two batters. From 61 runs to 80 runs on the board, England lost their top 5 batters, half of their batting line-up. Gurnoor, Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, all of the frontline Indian pacers, have opened their accounts in the match.
