Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh said that he wants to see fast bowler Prasidh Krishna in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, as he thinks Krishna will form a potent opening bowling partnership with ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball.
Harbhajan’s words come after the Karnataka pacer’s amazing bowling spell for India in the second OID fo the three-match series against West Indies, as his 4/12 helped the Men in Blue defend a paltry 238-run target with ease, bowling out the visitors for 193 runs and winning the match by 44 runs and taking an unassailable 44-run lead.
While lauding Prasidh Krishna’s performance during a discussion on Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh opined that the speedster could be very handy for Team India in Australia which has bouncy tracks.
He said: “He [Krishna] has shown his ability today. I feel going forward we will see him in Test cricket as well. We are seeing him in ODI cricket in any case, along with that, I want to see him at the T20 World Cup in Australia. Those are big grounds, there is extra bounce and pace in any case there and with his height and pace, I feel Team India will gain a lot there.”
“When you come into the team, the first thing you need is to have something different from the others, which he has. He has more bounce and pace compared to the other bowlers and the quickness of the ball after pitching is more,” he added.
Prasidh Krishna won the Player of the Match for his 4/12 in 9 overs. He is yet to make his T20I debut but has 15 wickets in 6 ODIs for India.
He Has A Smooth Action And A Very Good Run-Up: Harbhajan Singh On Prasidh Krishna
Harbhajan Singh further analyzed the tall Prasidh Krishna’s bowling action and said that his smooth mechanism of delivering the ball, ensures that he generates a disconcerting bounce from any surface. He also felt that Krishna could form a potent opening bowling partnership with Jasprit Bumrah.
“His [Krishna’s] positive is his action. He has a smooth action and a very good run-up. Along with that, he has a supple body. He gets extra bounce compared to the other bowlers because of that supple body that is his biggest weapon.
As he keeps on playing, he will keep learning. When Jasprit Bumrah came, he was not as capable a bowler as he is today. If he plays regularly for six to eight months, he will become an even better bowler. I am very impressed with him. I am sure in the coming days, the Jasprit Bumrah-Prasidh Krishna pair is going to do a lot of good for Team India,” Harbhajan Singh said.
Krishna has 48 wickets in 54 wickets at a slightly below-par economy rate of 8.67 in T20s. He will be entering the IPL 2022 auction and hoping to get a team where he will have the opportunity to play consistently.
