Former Team India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has named pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as an 'out-and-out leader' in the national cricket team. Paras Mhambrey highlighted that Jasprit Bumrah has leadership skills, adding that the Indian national cricket team needs him on the field.
Jasprit Bumrah was instrumental in India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory in the Caribbean. The ace pacer registered bowling figures of 2/18 in the final match, where India secured a seven-run victory over South Africa. He was named Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.17.
Jasprit Bumrah Is An Out-And-Out Leader In The Team - Paras Mhambrey
In an interaction with Hindustan Times, Paras Mhambrey praised Jasprit Bumrah for his confidence and skill on the field. Mhambrey said Bumrah's experience and composure will help the team, especially in grooming younger players.
"It's just the confidence that he has in his ability. He's never in doubt. That reflects in the way you see him on the ground. And that's because of his leadership skills. He is an out-and-out leader in the team. You need someone like him. Someone who has so much experience, you want him to share that experience with the other kids around. Whenever I see Jasprit Bumrah, I see a leader on the ground," Mhambrey said.
The 30-year-old cricketer has captained the national team in one Test match and two T20Is. Under his leadership, the Men in Blue lost a Test match to England but won T20I matches against Ireland. Bumrah has also served as vice-captain in red-ball cricket but was not considered for white-ball formats.
India will face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series followed by three ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav will replace Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Many experts and fans expected Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain during the recent World Cup, to be named the T20I captain.
Jasprit Bumrah Is Once-In-A-Generation Bowler - Paras Mhambrey
Paras Mhambrey described Jasprit Bumrah as a once-in-a-generation bowler. The former bowling coach highlighted that Bumrah is currently the top fast bowler in the world across all three formats. Mhambrey highlighted that Bumrah can execute his skills consistently across formats.
"He (Jasprit Bumrah) is a once-in-a-generation bowler, no doubt about it. It's his skills and adaptability because he does it in all three formats, not only in T20s. He's No.1 in all three formats right now. Having skills is one thing, but executing them every time is another," the former India bowling coach added.
Jasprit Bumrah opted out of the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The selectors and team management decided to rest Bumrah ahead of a busy Test schedule later this year. The Men in Blue will host Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia.
The Rohit Sharma-led team is currently at the top of the table in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with 68.52 percentage points from nine Test matches. The Indian team needs to win most of their remaining games to finish in the top two by the end of the cycle.
