Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined for breaching level 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct. Hardik Pandya has been handed a one-match ban for maintaining a slow over rate in their last league stage match in the IPL 2024.

The Mumbai Indians concluded their disappointing season with a loss against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Hardik Pandya-led team suffered an 18-run loss at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 17. MI ended the tournament at the bottom of the 10-team table.

Hardik Pandya Fined For Maintaining Slow Overrate

Hardik Pandya maintained a slow overrate for the third time during the 67th match of the 2024 IPL season. The all-rounder was fined Rs 30 lakh and given a one-game ban following his third breach in the same season.

"As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakhs and banned from playing the team’s next match," said an IPL media release.

"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 lakhs or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," the release added.

The MI skipper was first fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow overrate against the Punjab Kings. Pandya maintained a second slow overrate during the match against the Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 30.

Hardik Pandya will serve his one-game suspension at the beginning of the next season since the match against LSG was Mumbai's final game of the season.

Hardik Pandya's performance was below par with both bat and ball in the IPL 2024. The 30-year-old managed to take 11 wickets across 14 games at an expensive economy rate of 10.75. Pandya scored only 216 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 143.04.

Nicholas Pooran Scores Sensational Half-Century

LSG opener Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for a duck in the first over after being asked to bat first. The visiting team lost three wickets for 69 runs in 9.3 overs. However, Nicholas Pooran changed the momentum for his team with a sensational knock.

Pooran reached his half-century off just 19 balls. He scored 75 runs off 28 balls with five fours and eight sixes. Ayush Badoni (22 off 10) and Krunal Pandya (12 off 7) made valuable contributions as LSG reached a challenging total of 214 runs in 20 overs.

Brief scores:

Lucknow Super Giants 214/6 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 75, KL Rahul 55; Nuwan Thushara 3-28, Piyush Chawla 3-29).

Mumbai Indians 196/6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Naman Dhir 62 not out; Ravi Bishnoi 2-37, Naveen-ul-Haq 2-50).
