The kids created the atmosphere for us, we did it for them, so very glad - Hardik Pandya
MI were invited to bat first in the match and they did a great job, posting 215/7 on the board. Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav smashed brilliant half-centuries, while Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, and Corbin Bosch made good contributions.
Defending the total, MI bowled out LSG for 161, with Jasprit Bumrah picking four wickets while Trent Boult bagged three wickets. Also, Will Jacks picked two wickets and Corbin Bosch got one wicket.
After the victory, the Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was delighted and he said:
"The momentum which we had, we are carrying it forward. Everyone is clicking. The kids created the atmosphere for us, we did it for them, so very glad."
I bowl when I am required - Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya further expressed his delight over the performance of the team and said that everyone is contributing.
"Everyone kept taking their chances. The way Bosch came in and smashed those sixes, everyone chipped in. The bowlers were spot on. Good teams are made of the same when everyone chips in. From Ryan, Will, to Bosch, myself, everyone is chipping in," Hardik Pandya said.
When asked why he bowled just one over in the match, Hardik Pandya said that he bowls whenever there is requirement and wanted Corbin Bosch to complete his spell. He stated:
"I bowl when I am required. Today was the best chance for Bosch to come in and bowl. This competition is very tough, can't get carried away. We need to play good cricket, always prepare for the next game and keep up with the momentum going forward."
How did MI perform in the previous IPL match against LSG?
Mumbai Indians lost by 12 runs in a high-scoring contest against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow on April 4. Chasing a target of 204, MI ended their innings at 191/5 despite good knocks from Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir.
The innings began on a poor note for MI as both openers, Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Rickelton (10), departed inside the powerplay. However, Naman Dhir turned the momentum briefly with a fiery 24-ball 46. He built a good partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, who slammed a 43-ball 67 to stabilize the innings.
Once Dhir was cleaned up by Digvesh Rathi, MI still had hope with Tilak Varma and Suryakumar in the middle. However, the game turned when Avesh Khan dismissed Suryakumar in the 17th over, derailing the chase. Tilak was then retired out to bring in Mitchell Santner, but it proved ineffective. Captain Hardik Pandya fought till the end, smashing 28* off 16, but MI were reduced to 191/5.
Earlier in the match, Hardik Pandya registered sensational bowling figures of 5/36, his maiden five-wicket haul in T20s, but the lack of good performance with the bat cost MI the game.
