Mumbai Indians (MI) have reportedly dropped a massive statement ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. As per a journalist, it is learned that Hardik Pandya will continue captaining the franchise in the tournament going ahead.

Of late there were various reports that Mumbai Indians might make a change in the captaincy, especially with Suryakumar Yadav being the skipper of the India National Cricket Team.

It was learned that Hardik Pandya would be asked to relinquish his leadership and someone else, most likely Suryakumar, would take over the role. Howver, this won't be the case as per the statement shared by journalist Vaibhav Bola.

This came after Suryakumar Yadav was appointed Indian T20I captain over Hardik Pandya. It was the all-rounder, who was originally slated to take over the role but wasn't preferred to lead the team once Rohit Sharma called time on his T20I career after guiding the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Hardik Pandya till the T20 World Cup 2024 was the vice-captain of the Indian team. He even captained the side when Rohit Sharma was rested from the T20Is. But chief selector Ajit Agarkar along with head coach Gautam Gambhir weren't keen to give him captaincy because of his injury history and workload management.

Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians captain ahead of IPL 2024

When Pandya was seen as the potential candidate to lead the Indian team during the time when Rohit Sharma was rested, Mumbai Indians made a bold step too. First, the franchise traded the all-rounder from Gujarat Titans, and then just ahead of the league they appointed him as the captain of the team, replacing Rohit Sharma as the leader.

This came as a massive surprise for the cricket fraternity because Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the Indian Premier League. He has been leading the franchise since 2013 and has had huge success for the team as the captain, making the team most successful in the League.

Rohit Sharma made Mumbai Indians win five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. However, even after his success as a leader, he was replaced. This didn't go well with fans of the franchise as they didn't welcome the all-rounder as the leader and criticized him big time.

Pandya was booed by the fans every time he stepped on the field. The all-rounder was treated with "Rohit Rohit" chants. Not only this, his performance too went down as he struggled to get going both with the bat as well as the ball.

Hardik Pandya also failed to lead the team well. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians finished last on the points table. There were various reports during IPL 2024 that some of the senior players were not at all happy with the way he was captaining the team and various rifts were going on.

But with the franchise retaining him as the captain for next season along with the confidence of performing well in the T20 World Cup 2024, Pandya would be keen to make an impact in the next edition.
