Rishabh Pant's return to Delhi Capitals marked the end of his short and disappointing stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Indian wicketkeeper-batter had joined LSG for a record-breaking ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in league history.
However, Pant decided to move on after two tough seasons with both bat and captaincy. Delhi Capitals brought back their former captain and long-time star at a reduced salary of ₹15 crore. He played for the franchise from 2016 to 2024 and became one of the biggest faces of the team. During that period, he played 111 matches for DC and also captained the side across four seasons.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav's Delhi journey ended after five successful seasons where the spinner scalped 72 wickets in 65 matches and became one of the team's most reliable bowlers. He will now begin a new chapter with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026.

Soon after the trade was officially announced, fans noticed that Kuldeep had liked a social media reel that criticized both Delhi Capitals and their decision to bring Rishabh Pant back. The video questioned the franchise's strategy and suggested that the team management was once again going back to an old formula instead of building something completely new.
The reel compared Delhi's move with Punjab Kings' approach of building a fresh setup around new leadership. It also mocked the DC’s decision to reunite with Pant despite the team's struggles under his captaincy in previous seasons in the league.
The video mocked the move by saying, “Fir wahin Rishabh Pant, pehle haarkar tassali nahi mili kya, bade dheedh log hain ye.” And Kuldeep likes this reel that quickly became a talking point on social media because he was part of the trade deal between DC and LSG.

Interestingly, Rishabh Pant kept his farewell message to Lucknow Super Giants short and simple after his return to Delhi Capitals was officially confirmed. The wicketkeeper-batter shared LSG's goodbye post on his Instagram Story and wrote, “Thank you team.”
Notably, Pant has been dropped from the Indian team in the white-ball formats because of his poor form with the bat. He was also stripped from the vice-captaincy of the Test team.
