Under-fire Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf is reportedly disturbed by the criticism and untoward comments directed at him in recent times. The right-arm pacer faced severe criticism from fans and experts for failing to live up to the expectations in the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
With Naseem Shah not a part of the World Cup squad due to an injury, the onus was on Haris Rauf to deliver with the ball. However, the star pacer failed to do well and struggled throughout the competition as Pakistan crashed out of the World Cup at the league stage.
In 9 games, he picked up 16 wickets but did not really deliver in a pressure situation. His economy rate was also not impressive as he conceded 533 runs in 474 balls that he delivered in the World Cup. He then landed in hot water once again after refusing to travel to Australia for the upcoming Test series. Newly-appointed chief selector Wahab Riaz openly revealed that the pacer had refused to travel before going on to criticize him for the decision that could ‘hurt Pakistan.
Haris Rauf disturbed:
With things not really going well on the field as well as off it in recent times, Haris Rauf is struggling mentally. According to his family sources, he is upset with the unwarranted criticism he received during the World Cup campaign.
“Look, Haris is upset with those who have unleashed undue criticism on the pacers during the World Cup campaign. Even those who hardly know anything are criticising his form and raising questions about his not picking wickets regularly during World Cup matches,” a close family source was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the PCB has stated that it would not take any action against Haris Rauf for his refusal to travel to Australia. Consequently, the pacer is likely to remain available for selection for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand after the Test series in Australia.
