Haris Rauf suffers biggest financial penalty for Asia Cup theatrics, contract terminated

Bad news for Haris Rauf, as UZ Sports, a Canada-based company, has concluded its contract with the Pakistani fast bowler. The company sponsors several other Pakistani cricketers, like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.
Pakistan pacer Rauf has already been surrounded by controversies since the 2025 Asia Cup, where he was criticized for having made some controversial gestures. The pacer went for 50 runs in the Asia Cup final against India and was one of the biggest reasons for their defeat.
Known for having pulled out the controversial 'fighter jet' celebration in the Asia Cup 2025 Super-4 match between India and Pakistan. Rauf was cornered for referring to fallen Indian Air Force crafts, which were claimed by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack.

After the incident, he had also gestured 6-0 with his hand, which also backed Pakistan's propaganda during Operation Sindoor. As a result of this, Haris Rauf was fined 30 per cent of his match fees after the ICC found him guilty of the act. However, he once again repeated the act in the final.
However, now the bad news has surrounded the cricketer, as his contract with UZ Sports has come to an end, and they have not decided to extend it any further.
"UZ Sports announces the conclusion of its contract with Haris Rauf. We are grateful for the time and professionalism he brought during our collaboration. We wish Haris continued success and fulfilment in all his future endeavours," the company said.
Haris Rauf had a contract for his bat with the Canadian company 'UZ Sports,' which is owned by Uzair Minhas. The company is known to sponsor high-profile Pakistani cricketers, including Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Haris Rauf in doubt for the South Africa T20I series
The Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf recently played for Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, but was hit for 50 runs off just 22 balls and went wicketless in the game. After Pakistan's heartbreaking exit from the Asia Cup, he might be dropped from the Pakistan playing XI for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
Though Rauf was successful in terms of the number of wickets picked, his economy was the worst among all Pakistani bowlers. Pakistan selectors might consider dropping him to hand opportunities to other cricketers to prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

The Pakistan team had dropped their senior-most cricketers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, from their squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Mohammad Rizwan currently holds the position of Pakistan's ODI captain and has also been backed by the PCB for the same role.
This snub came at the back of their group-stage exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, as well as the home tournament of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. However, citing the 2026 T20 World Cup, they might be handed some opportunities to play the preparatory games en route to the ICC tournament.
